Summer Program Registration

Posted by Birmingham Blue Dolphins on May 28 2021 at 01:41PM PDT

Dear Parents and Swimmers – Thanks for your patience as we worked through the registration details for our Summer Program. Below you’ll find Kevin’s note from a few days ago with links to register for the program. Registration is now open.

In the past our spring program has ended just before Memorial Day when summer clubs/teams begin. Our summer program is due to begin on Tuesday. I wish I could tell you all details are in place, but we are working to get as many details to you as we can.

We plan to offer a program directed at 8&Unders. This will be held at the Y with three practices a week for young swimmers new to the sport beginning when public schools are out for the summer.

Our nine- and- up program will use Bloomfield Open Hunt and Cranbrook pools with five practices a week in the evening. That schedule will begin June 14th. In the meantime, the practices will be held Monday and Wednesday at the Y from 7:15-8:45 and Tuesday, Thursday and Friday at the Y from 5:00-6:15.

Our 13 and up long-course program will offer morning practices at the Southfield Civic Center in the morning, and three evenings at Cranbrook so that swimmers will be able to do two practices a day a few times each week. Until we begin at Southfield, practices will continue at Cranbrook Monday through Friday 6:00-8:30 through June 18.

The 13 and up long-course program is intended for the dedicated swimmer who plans to be at morning practice regularly and take advantage of the evening practices as well. We expect this group to compete in long-course meets. If a swimmer wants to supplement what they are doing at their summer clubs they are welcome to join the nine-and-up program with evening workouts.

The Y has always done its best to keep these programs affordable, but the cost of pool time has gone up and you will see an increase in the fee for the 13 and up program. We also plan to attend meets, some of which are out of state and that adds to the expense.

The team will also levy a charge to provide the swimmers with some swag and to help cover coaches’ expenses at away meets that is separate from the YMCA fees.

Please note that due to an order from the MDHSS we will continue to test athletes ages 13 and up weekly who are unvaccinated. If an athlete has tested positive and recovered from COVID 19 in the past three months the athlete is exempt from testing.

We are very excited at the prospects for our summer season. Thank you for all of your support this season!
